I think it's safe to say... most of us (in blog world anyway) love stripes.
Stripes can be really versatile too. They obviously come in all colors, sizes and styles ... contemporary, classic, bold, subtle, thick, thin.
That's one thing I love about design. You can take one element that's been done before and seen often and totally make it your own. So, which do you like best
... horizontal or vertical?

Don't make me choose! I seriously can't, I love them both so much. I guess it depends on the specific space...
ReplyDeleteI think horizontal stripes are easier to work with on the walls whereas vertical are easier to use on soft furnishings. In this case, with the walls, definitely horizontal. I think vertical look too busy to me.

ReplyDeletethe most dramatic striping we did here recently was planked wood walls (HORIZONTAL!!!) to finish our basement. i never met a stripe i didn't love. and that goes for wearing them too!

I find a vertical stripe much more pleasing to the eye. However for a hallway, a horizontal stripe gives a great sense of flow. (Ok, maybe I love them all!)

I love the vertical especially for walls, love them for upholstering too. I am always drawn to stripes in fabrics, I think my next sofa will be stripes! Thanks for the great pics.
ReplyDeleteThis is the perfect post right now since I'm considering doing stripes in my laundry room. Black and white. I know, scary, but it's for a challenge. I've been debating vertical or horizontal. The ceilings are quite high so I don't need the height. I was leaning more toward horizontal to hopefully make the room look larger.
