The indoor events at the Randolph Street Market kicked off this past Saturday at noon.
This is a huge, urban, antique market that opens one weekend a month from February to November in Chicago's West Loop area. It's such a fun way to spend a few hours on the weekend whether you're enjoying the "Empanadus"stand to seeking out some really great finds.
My one purchase this Sat. was a vintage olive bucket from Turkey.
I love the patina it has and it's size is perfect for so many things. I'm not sure where it will go or what I'll use it for yet, but for now I think the forsythia branches look ok ( I know... I need about three more bunches to fill the bucket). I think a boxwood in it would look fabulous as well.
I just wish I bought two!!

Now, before I came across the bucket and within minutes after we walked in, my husband spotted the bar area. We thought a drink right off the bat would add to the festivities, and a nice young guy was handing out bloody mary samples. They looked to good to resist and to our pleasant surprise tasted even better. We asked the guy if he made them and he said yes, he's Stu and pointed to these great looking bottles.
Stu told us we could find them at Pastoral.
Pastoral is a cute European inspired cheese, speciality food and wine shop.... I love it. The first little shop opened in my neighborhood and now they have two other locations
in the Loop and West Loop ( all in Chicago).
QUICK OVERVIEW
"You may not find tomato juice or vodka in this jar, but you will find the spices and enough Stu's sour pickle juice to make the best bloody mary you've ever had. Each little jar has all the pickle and pepper you need to make 4 pints of bloody mary, just add a pint of tomato juice and vodka to 2 oz of this sour sauce." *I took this right off Pastoral web site because it's the perfect description...
I have to say my vintage bucket and "Stu's this is Bloody Mary" were the 2 great finds of the day.
So, if you are in Chicago next month, March 24- 25, check out the next Randolph Street Market.

ReplyDeleteI love your olive basket and doesn't matter if you have a place for it if you love it you'll find a place. Thanks for the heads up about Stu's, my husband loves a great bloody mary so I think I'll go see if I can order it to surprise him.

Love that vintage bucket!
ReplyDeleteHello there! I found you through Jeanne's beautiful blog and am glad that I did! I love your olive basket (I have never seen one like it here in Provence) and am jealous that you have forsythias, even if you feel that you don't have enough. :) To top it off, I have also met that Stu guy, at the Ann Arbor Farmer's market--I wanted to fix him up with my sister! He makes good kimchee too. I am your newest follower...
